The weather today is essentially the same as yesterday. Skies will be mostly sunny with mid to high level clouds. Hurricane Irene continues to disrupt normal easterly trade wind flow. Winds will be moderate to light at 5 to 10 mph or less. They will be highly variable in direction. Seas will be calm at 1 to 3 feet. Expect these weather conditions to hold through this weekend.
The air temperatures will be in the 80s to the mid 90s (F) or 27 to 32 (C). In the sun, without the east winds, it will feel like 100 degrees plus. At depth, ocean water temperatures are about 82F to 86F or 28C to 30C . Visibility is generally 60 to 80 feet.

The Tropical Weather Outlook

Hurricane Irene is passing over the NW Bahamas as a Cat 3 hurricane. Invest 98L is NW of the Cape Verde islands and now has a 10% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone. Invest 90L is SW of the Cape Verde islands and now is TD 10. It is at 12.4 N x 30.4W and moving W-NW. Until it gets well above 16N, this systems bears watching.
None of these systems currently pose a threat to us. However, since we are approaching the peak (Sept 10) of the hurricane season, all interests in the Bay Islands and on the north coast of Honduras should continue, to closely monitor the weather and prepare for future storms.
