The Tropical Weather Outlook

TD12 has become TS Katria. It is located at 11.8 N latitude x 31.7 W longitude. This position is approximately 3200 miles SSE of us. It is moving WNW at 15 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 40mph.Minimum central pressure is a 1006 mb. It has begun its turn to the WNW. However, until it gets well above 16N latitude, this system bears watching closely. Katia has the potential to become the next major hurricane.
It currently does not pose a threat to us. However, since we are approaching the peak (Sept 10) of the hurricane season, all interests in the Bay Islands and on the north coast of Honduras should continue, to monitor the weather and prepare for future storms.
