Again, skies will be mostly sunny with mid to high level clouds. West of 80W, the unusual southerly flow across the Western Caribbean, due to Hurricane Irene, has weakened to light and variable winds. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection is occurring over Central America in association with typical summer afternoon heating. Early morning and late evening showers and thunderstorms are possible in association with this heating. Throughout the Caribbean no significant deep convection is occurring. Little change in the winds or convection is expected during the next day or so. Winds will continue to be moderate to light at 5 to 10 mph or less. Seas will be calm at 1 to 3 feet.
The air temperatures will be in the 80s to the mid 90s (F) or 27 to 32 (C). In the sun, without the east winds, it will feel like 100 degrees plus. At depth, ocean water temperatures are about 82F to 86F or 28C to 30C . Visibility is generally 60 to 80 feet.

The Tropical Weather Outlook

At 5am EDT, Irene was a Cat 1 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 90mph. The center of Hurricane Irene will make landfall in Eastern North Carolina during the next few hours and then move across Eastern North Carolina. The hurricane is forecast to move near or over the USA, mid-Atlantic coast tonight and then move over Southern New England on Sunday.
TD 10 is at 16 N latitude x 34 W longitude. This position is approximately 3100 miles due E of us. It is still moving W-NW at 7 mph. Until it gets well above 16N, this systems bears watching.
None of these systems currently pose a threat to us. However, since we are approaching the peak (Sept 10) of the hurricane season, all interests in the Bay Islands and on the north coast of Honduras should continue, to closely monitor the weather and prepare for future storms.
