The Tropical Weather Outlook

Katia remains a Cat 1 hurricane. It is moving NE, across the open North Atlantic ocean. Maximum sustained winds are 85 mph.
TS Nate is moving W at 5 mph. Early this morning, it was located in the SW Gulf of Mexico at 20N x 93.7W. It has maximum winds of 50 mph. It is still expected to make landfall in Mexico sometime Sunday.
Maria remains a very large, disorganized storm. This morning, TS Maria was centered at 16.0N x 60.2W or about 1500 miles due E of us. It is traveling NW or 315 degrees at 13 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 45 mph.
By Monday, if Maria continues the turn to the NW, it will no longer be a threat to us. There is still uncertainty in the track guidance for this storm. Consequently, until it gets well north of 16N latitude, Maria still bears watching closely. It currently does not pose a threat to us.
Since today (Sept 10), is the peak of the hurricane season, all interests in the Bay Islands and on the north coast of Honduras should continue, to monitor the weather and prepare for future storms. So far this year, there have been 14 named storms. It is possible, given the current overall weather conditions in the Tropical Atlantic, that there maybe as many as 10 to 14 more named storms, before the Hurricane Season officially ends on December 1st.
